What are some problems that overpopulation causes? Give at least one solution to overcome the problem.
Overpopulation is a condition where there is excessive number of people in a certain area, city or country. Overpopulation has become a grave problem in the context of the world today, and it can be associated with a wide range of social and health related problems. There are, however, some practical measures to combat these problems.
Firstly, one immediate
negative impact of overpopulation can be seen in the area of ‘employment’. For
instance, in overpopulated areas more and more people will compete for the same
jobs and it is likely that people might be out of work, or even forced to work menial
jobs that might be frustrating. As a result, people might find it tough to pay
their bills and support their family, thus causing them to resort to criminal
activities like shoplifting, theft and robbery. Moreover, when the population
increases, this is certain to cause increment in the number of transportation
facilities like buses, cars, motorbikes and scooters, which will in turn
increase the carbon dioxide emission in the air, consequently, depleting the
atmosphere and causing people to suffer from various airborne diseases.
One practical solution
to this problem is to create awareness among the people regarding the adverse
effects of overpopulation. For instance, the government could collaborate with
local communities in order to formulate education campaigns that emphasize the
benefits of a small family; they can, furthermore, distribute free family
planning measures and birth control pills in order to motivate married couples
to have less number of children.
In conclusion,
overpopulation is a severe problem for every country. If the government of
these countries could take responsibility to educate the people regarding the
value of a small family, I strongly believe that this problem can be rectified.
