The line graph demonstrates the total weight of goods carried by four distinct means of transportation: road, water, rail and pipeline, in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 2002. Overall, in the given time period, most quantities of goods (in the UK) were transported through road, whereas the least quantities of goods were transported through the medium of pipeline.

Firstly, in 1974, approximately 70 million tonnes of goods was carried in the United Kingdom via road, which was approximately 14 times more than the quantity of goods carried by pipeline (in the same year). Water and rail, on the other hand, transported nearly the same quantity of goods in the United Kingdom in 1974(about 40 million tonnes).

Moreover, the quantity of goods transported through the mode of water in the United Kingdom remained fairly constant from 1982 to 1998, peaking at more than 60 million tonnes in the year 2002. Also, the quantity of goods carried by pipeline and road steadily increased from 1982 onwards, reaching its peak (approximately) at 20 million tonnes and 100 million tonnes, respectively.

Although the quantity of goods transported via rail remained below 40 million between 1978 and 1998, it eventually rose to above 20 million tonnes in 2002.
