So,
you want to get a good score in your IELTS writing, but don’t know where to
start?
Well, you can start with learning how to write a variety of sentence
structures: compound and complex. Mastering the use of these two sentence structures
will help you boost your points considerably for one of the marking criterias in
IELTS writing: Grammatical Range and accuracy.
So, what is a
compound sentence?
When you
join two independent clauses together with a conjunction: or, and, but, because, etc, you create a compound sentence.
Examples (words
in bold are conjunctions):-
1)
You can go on a picnic, or you can go hiking.
2)

and she wore them to the get-together.
3)
He wants to get good grades, but he doesn’t like studying.
Next, do not forget to write complex sentences in your
IELTS writing task!
Complex sentences are often
constructed by placing a subordinating conjunction at the beginning of a
dependent clause. Word(s) like although,
even though, provided that, if, because, since, as, as if, before, after,
while, when, whenever, during, as soon as, as long as, until and unless are
subordinating conjunctions.
Examples:-

outing, he takes his daughter with him.

government can create jobs in Nepal, youths would not go abroad looking for
jobs.

yesterday, the streets are still flooded.

place on foot, we went on a helicopter.
